A Good Day for The Cupcakes Club

Here we go again! Another interview, another 6-7 minutes to get totally freaked out and think how having a shot at 10:30 in the AM to ease the nerves doesn't really seem that early :" Coming up on "Good Day Arizona"
Monday, June 2
We'll talk heart health with Dr. Ted Diethrich from the Arizona Heart Hospital.
Also, a great outlet for teens and tweens founded right here in Arizona. We'll introduce you to The Cupcakes Club.
Plus, we'll look at fun things to do with the family this summer with Starwood Lodging. "

If you're in the Arizona area....11:00 AM, 3TV, KTVK...wish me luck!

etsy addiction

I am loving that this necklace was hand embroidered by a girl in France on Etsy who was dreaming about Mexico..."I thought about the Mexican gardens in which I've spent many a weekend, witnessed many a wedding reception and celebrated many a national holiday. While all the gardens I remember have been filled with everything from peacocks and fountains to cacti and murals, this particular one is filled with colorful flowers in bloom and a wee bird.
I think it will look dreamy with this top she created as well..."I pinned and tucked here and there on both a dress form and a live model until this romantic wee top was sculpted from my imagination with lots of attention to tailoring and fit." I love it...fabulous finds and you get a peek at who created your style.

Arizona Cupcakes Club interview

Here's a play by play in pictures of our Arizona interview. I love that my "cupcake girl" Michaela could be with me as it eased many tensions and BTW she was so calm and cool (much more so than this Cupcake). It was a long segment and there was zero preparation before we began...which kind of throws you and put you at ease all at the same time. I was feeling like I was an amazing Jim Carrey with the amount of faces I was making during the interview, but on the bright side...I'm really fun at parties.

suit season

I've never been a big fan of swimsuit season. Although I'm getting better, I just don't like the idea of "dressing to swim" unless it just happens to be in your own backyard (my Scottsdale days). This suit would be a real possible and high on the list if I were to choose a suit...thanks to Norma Kamali swimwear and for Patricia Field, the costume designer for "Sex and the City," for bringing it to my attention. But, for the $350 price tag...I'd rather buy something that covers up more than just my upper torso.

All you computer cats out there...

I've been adding lots of great things for you to "must read" if you're ever looking for something fresh and fun...just remember who told you about it and come back soon. Have a great weekend!

Cupcake Dance

I wanted to have this on the blogs for The Cupcakes Club crowd. Unfortunately, posting it could have led to chance encounters to possible lewd and lascivious acts with crazy cupcakes on other videos...so, I'll post it here for adults. Kind of reminds me of a middle school dance...enjoy!

Take TWO

I feel a bit more confident this time...home field advantage and a second time to talk up The Cupcakes Club.
If you happen to be in town, the show airs at 10 AM on May 27 on Channel 7 in our area...local Arizona television but it's all good for experience. Thanks to Suzanne Marques for all of her tips and expertise in the field of broadcasting--you make it look easy! Check out Suzanne's blog as well--she gives us all the hip and happening in the Los Angeles area along with being a TV reporter (although I've never met Suzanne- she is one of the nicest people I have ever met online...what a jewel!)....and maybe one day she'll be interviewing a calm, cool, collected me.

School's OUT!

...or at least it will be in about 36 hours or thereabouts where I live.
I always find it amusing that kids think they're pulling one over on the teacher at their elementary school...like they get a summer but you don't. Little do they realize that teachers are more excited than they are for summer!
A break in the action, a season of sleep, a time to travel and rejuvenate. I'm totally into the non-scheduled activities and am SO READY for a break, but this year it's a little bittersweet to see some of the fifth graders at my school head off to sixth grade and middle school in the fall.
There has been a group of fifth grade girls at my school that I've "grown up" with since they were in the first grade. I have helped them learn how to read, played with them at recess, and enjoyed the friendships they've shared together almost as much as when I was their age. This group of girls was a big part of the inspiration for The Cupcakes CLub children's book series I am writing and I'll miss seeing them nine months out of the year. Hopefully they'll remember The Cupcakes and think fondly of their 5Th grade year.
What about you? Did you ever have a teacher that you remember for one reason or another...? Mine was Mr. Grimmer, high school social studies, and my heart sings when I think of him because he challenged me. He always wanted me to do my best and let everyone know that I was. I hope you have the best summer ever, Mr. Grimmer.

Take a deep breath

I can totally relate. Okay, so I made it through the first television interview. Although my body was pretty calm I felt as if my brain was spinning. The week before, I had to send in 5 questions that the interviewer would ask me so I knew what was coming. For me, the preparation was part of the problem...I wanted to answer in a witty yet conversational style and impress everyone around me with my candor.
All the years of doing plays came flooding back to me and the stage fright I began to have in the last years of performing. When they handed me the script 30 minutes or so before showtime I looked at the first question,"What inspired you to write these books?" and my head started spinning. "What books?" I thought to myself...."I wrote books? Why did I write them?"
Anyone got any Ritalin around here?
Anyways, the interview went well...of course, I could be a pit bull and tear myself apart...but why bother? The next one I will probably enjoy more and the one after that will be amazing. Just brushing up my interview skills before I sit down and chat with Oprah.

Excuse me, Miss Parker

How would you like to be sitting behind Miss Sarah Jessica in the movie theater with that hat on?!
Can't wait for the movie but when I see these girls outfits I would have to say "I'm a Charlotte". Clean and classic. I like to take fashion risks but not if there's a chance my boobs might fall out or if I have to balance a hat while meeting and greeting and certainly not when thousands, possibly millions, of people will be watching. You go, girls!

Opposites attract

Thanks sweetie for my Mother's Day gift (full disclosure...I chose it, ordered it, and John wrapped and gave it to me). Online they showed it on a beautiful dress but I'm planning on wearing it with a tshirt and jeans...laid back and luxe.
In a long ago issue of InStyle, back when Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger were married (this was a long time ago) she had on a gorgeous butterfly jeweled necklace that Alec had given her ( $20,000+ if I recall) with a white tee and overalls. Kim--email me for my address if you would like to rid yourself of that memory.

Happy Mom's Day, Cupcake

I actually made these and brought them into work and you would have thought I had found the cure for cancer or some other amazing discovery...everyone raved. Thanks for the applause but I owe it all to Bakerella and her easy to follow directions. BTW- really adorable baked creations for you to make and enjoy on her site. And to all the moms out there...or to anyone that does have a mom...Happy Mother's Day!

The Cupcakes at TARGET!

Isn't it funny how sometimes you say things and they actually come true?!
Yesterday I mentioned to my husband how great it would be to get my books, The Cupcakes Club, into TARGET stores. Beyond the fact that TARGET is way cool with what's shakin in fashion and lifestyle, the more girls that have access to the books the more PR we can spread around for The Cupcakes (pardon the pun...).
So, today I get an email from my illustrator congratulating me on making it into TARGET and whaddaya know...The Cupcakes at Target! I think it's just online (via Amazon) but I'm not complaining....today online; tomorrow IN a TARGET store near you!
