I will survive

Going back to school has always meant being cut off from life on the Internet. Sure, we have computers...but, um...they're meant for learning or researching. Not exactly high on the list would be chuckling and leaving comments on my favorite blogger sites. I would usually bolt home at lunch to check on my email and catch up on any big news (you know...big news like what one blogger ate for dinner last night) all the while wolfing down a sandwich...not good.
BUT- Mr. B- what a man, what a man, what a mighty good man! He suggested I purchase a laptop to make things easier in my daily life. And so I did.
It's the incredibly sweet and petite Samsung NC10-14GB 10.2-Inch Netbook that was built for my life on the computer. It's basically all about the Internet and the emails--things I'm obsessed about. I can stay at work during lunch and check out my favorite blogs while answering emails that otherwise would have to wait ..um... a grueling three hours for a reply (I told you I'm obsessed). I'll let you know how it all works...at work.

how many times can you do it?

Most of you, some of you , or a few of you know that The Cupcakes Club came from me. I gave birth to a website. It's a fun website that entertains kids with contests, conversations, and an ongoing storyline of the girls from The Cupcakes Club. Oh- and it's free.

I noticed one day that there were hundreds of new members. Wow. Where did they come from? I began to investigate. It looks as if two little girls on summer vacation came up with about a hundred names to sign up on the club so they could talk, enter contests, and keep themselves busy in the summer months.

I could only smile. Do you remember when you were a kid and you were so bent on winning something or obsessing about something that it totally took over your life? We're flattered.

It was a good summer

Just found out today I got my small group reading teacher job back. So-looks like my summer will officially end August 4th and kids return August 10th. I know I should be happy with everyone struggling for a permanent job--but I'm going to miss these midnight blogging hours and waking up whenever my body tells me to and not an alarm clock.

The Dailey Method

Don't have enough time to go to yoga, pilates, ballet or do weights?
How would you like a one hour class that combines all of them?
This new exercise is called "The Dailey Method" and it's new to Scottsdale although working out lots of bodies in California. My daughter is doing a "30 day trial" (most classes are $20 each- new members get 30 days for $100+) and you can read her review here.

Who knew?

When I went to catch up with Tracy Porter I read that she is no longer blogging or doing video for her website...too bad. She was always very inspirational and fun to watch although I know that video can be a huge time suck with the family and business.

Sunny Scottsdale

Although it will be nice for a change of scenery for a couple of days, I know that it's going to be HOT . Better bring the swimsuit!

Bastille Day!

I think what Marie Antoinette meant to say was, "Let them be Cupcakes!"
As in...join The Cupcakes Club and go have some fun, people!

family jewels

If you've got a box full of costume vintage jewelry that you don't wear for one reason or another (only one earring/don't wear clip earrings/the pin is missing the back..you get the idea) you can send them to Sara at BroadStreet on etsy and she'll create a one of a kind, conversation starter necklace to wear and enjoy. Here's what she wrote about my new necklace:

"A compact collage of a pendant with rhinestones, crowns, French Bulldogs, Toulouse flowers and pearls. A multi chain with original integrity to finish. It 's almost as though this piece is a revival of a fallen empire; looking into a well of treasures and bringing them to the surface, piece by piece."

Which seems only fitting~ tomorrow is Bastille Day!

things that make me go

hmmm...
I'm perplexed that bloggers "take the weekend off" and the blogoshere is basically postless during the Saturday and Sunday hours. Maybe I'm not taking this blogging thing as seriously as I need to during the week.

It's Greek to me

When friends told me about Oikos Greek Yogurt (and that it had finally arrived in our town's grocery stores) I immediately got some and am so delighted I did! Low in sugar and calories, but high in protein and taste--it's a treat. And just think if you added a few spoonfuls of this yummy granola. Recipe by Melissa and looks delish.

Birds of a Feather

When my son's girlfriend, Megan, wrote this on her blog I came close to spitting out a gulp of water I had just taken. Funny, true, and just like my son:
"CNN finally reports the King of Pop is dead as disco (they didn't necessarily report it like that). I bet all those people who sold their Michael Jackson memorabilia on eBay last week are hating their lives right now. I just saw an auction for his July concert in London-- oops that's going to be awkward. Ticket price is at $1500, I'd say it's a little overpriced considering the circumstances."
BTW--did you hear? Michael Jackson died last week.I know...it's sort of been on the hush-hush.

Summer Monsoons

The Arizona monsoons are back and such a welcome blessing. Every Summer we can expect showers or thunderstorms from the middle of June to about the middle of August.
The day usually seems unbearably hot and humid (probably not as humid as some other parts of the country...) but just when you think you can't take it anymore, a few raindrops turn into an afternoon shower and cools everything off...so refreshing. Sometimes it's just a lovely drizzle while other days it's wind, dust, lightning, and thunder. It makes for a surprising Summer!
