name that baby

From MSNBC:
"We didn't have a name picked out until just before we left the hospital," Halle told Nancy. "For us it was hard to name the most important person in our life until we met her."Halle Berry's baby daughter's name is Nahla Ariela Aubry, pronounced GNAW-lah ARE-ee-EL-uh.
A spontaneous, off the cuff, fly by the seat of your pants sort of name.

makes me smile

Congratulations and best of luck to Tyler who will be making his first stand up comedy appearance! Gotta love someone who's taking a challenge and following a dream...go for it!

as good as it gets

One of my most favorite things to do on a cold, wet, miserable sort of day is to sneak a nap in. The thought of snuggling in under a freshly laundered quilt (dried in the sunshine yesterday and smelling of freshness..or is that the Tide mountain spring?) and stealing a few winks just puts a smile on my face. Living in Arizona I don't get the chance too often (way too sunny most of the time) but every once in a while you get to pull one over on the man (not sure who "the man" is but I am feeling like I'm pulling one over on someone) Here's to naps...and here's to the good life.

Give me a home where the buffalo roam

I just finished watching the Real Housewives of New York City and I sincerely hope that Bravo found these women at their psychiatrist's offices where they are discussing their insecurities regarding social standing, style, class, and acceptance.

"I don't know what to wear. Do I look okay? Are you sure I look okay?" "It's nice to be on a vacation where I don't feel like I have to impress anyone" "Why did she invite her and not me?" "If you have children you have to live on the upper east side to get them in the right schools" "It takes a lot of money to climb the social ladder"....geesh.
It makes me long for the good old days of the OC Housewives where the boobs were the only thing that were so blatantly fake.

Who's your DADDY?

When I first inquired about our website, thecupcakesclub.com, from GoDaddy I felt all warm and fuzzy inside. They were ready to hold my hand and sell me everything they had to offer....it felt like a homepage to me.
But now, when we're getting down and dirty and things need to be uploaded with SQL's and PHP's and just when I don't understand a word of it...my GoDaddy tech support starts to speak Chinese to me (they're probably getting back at me because they didn't understand the word "cupcakes" at the trade show) and to add insult to injury they give me attitude of "I can't believe you don't understand what I'm saying."
I am SO going to win at this game GoDaddy tech support...I will understand and go forth and win at this little thing we call the internet. And, I'm going to leave you in the corner at the cocktail party all by yourself with no social skills to speak of and no one to talk to.

Lost in translation

So, we just got back from Las Vegas...I would say "Vegas" but I feel like such a poseur if I'd say that.

Anyway, didn't go there to gamble...we went to a show looking for cupcake related items for the website http://www.thecupcakesclub.com/ and monthly gifts for memberships. For those of you who follow my blog you'll remember that I am writing a children's book series and creating an interactive website for the "tweens" girls.

The show had lots of importers...lots of the Asian population who if I would not have had a picture of a CUPCAKE on my business card would have been at a total loss to what a cupcake is, was, or will ever be. Let's just say...not my target audience and the word "cupcake"gets lost in translation (although as a disclaimer, I am sure there are many, many, many, of you in the Asian population who are quite knowledgeable in the area of what a cupcake is).

While there, I did run into Julia Roberts and we talked about what big teeth we both have but she did understand what a cupcake was and I am proud to say that Miss Roberts will be our first celebrity Cupcakes Club member. Oprah (who was looking quite thin and must not be eating cupcakes as of late) also was most interested in The Cupcakes Club and we took a few minutes for an interview. All in all, a really good weekend.
