the insider

we loves us some inside scoop...the dirt...the dish.
SO- if you're a fan of HGTV Design Star (or just watch because let's face it...there's nothing else on in the summer) and you want to know the truth and nothing but the truth...go to a couple of the contestant's blogs.

Emily Henderson
I would read her blog even if she weren't on the show...she's fun to read and sounds like your really cool girlfriend. We like her and so will you if you go to The Brass Petal

Need a man's point of view? Check out Dan Faires at his blog Capsule. Again; sounds like a real person lives here and nice design pics.

zippity zumba

I've went to two of the fast paced, shake what you got, zumba classes and here's the short version:
You move your legs, your butt, your arms, and you keep moving for 55 minutes or's a work-out! So far I have blocked any view of me shakin and bakin in the "look at me" mirrors but perhaps I'll get brave in the next couple of weeks...I'm sure I look like I know what I'm doing (wink).

it's hot

Summer has officially begun which means my afternoon walks into town to do errands have turned into a hot mess. Thoughts of heat exhaustion creep into my scorched brain as I'm stumbling home and I'm realizing a three mile hike is not a good thing to be doing when it's 90+ degrees.
I could just get up earlier to walk (but I seriously don't see that happening during my summer vay-cay) so, I need to find another aerobic activity that is inside with AC. A few friends have suggested:

Zumba Pictures, Images and Photos

Really?? It sounds interesting but just checking to see if anyone's tried it out there. I don't have to wear the tye dye pants do I?!

midnight snack

Gelato. Ice cream. Sorbet. Popsicles. If it's's good. What are your favorites?
*lately; gelato is at the top of our list.

book club for two

I'm late to the party on reading this bestseller, but sometimes it's difficult for me to find the time to read 600+ pages unless I'm traveling (or when my foot was broken earlier in the year).
I told my husband it read like his kind of book and would be a nice change in authors that he normally devours. He's loving it.
We are currently "sharing" the book (I'm in the final chapter while he is midway through) and a mini book club has been born during our summer casual cocktails. Chances are he'll move on to the second (and third) while I blog away, but I hope to pick them up when he's closed the cover. What books have you read lately that you love?

ch,ch,ch, chia

Do you guys know about chia seed? If you don't...let me fill you in and then go get some (any vitamin/health food store/I buy it in bulk at New Frontiers)'s SO good for you!

Some benefits:
No need to grind Chia Seeds to digest it. It is a relatively easy to digest seed, whereas flax seeds are not. You can stir them in juice, yogurt, throw them in when you're baking or cooking--its nutrients hold up in hot or cold temps.Chia seeds have very little taste, which makes them acceptable to even the most discriminating palate.
Packed inside a tiny chia seed is protein,omega-3 (more than salmon), fiber (um...thank you!), antioxidants (more than blueberries), vitamins and calcium .

Tiny chia seeds don't stop with what's packed inside of them; once eaten, chia seeds provide energy (people are always asking me about this...maybe it's the chia?), lessen the risk of cardiovascular disease, stabilize blood sugar, provide the daily requirements of fiber, vitamins and aid in weight loss (2 tablespoons of Chia = 7 grams of fiber, 2 grams of protein, 205 milligrams of calcium, 5 grams omega-3)

Try it out this summer--see if you notice a change. And if you were wondering...yep; this is the seed that sprouts on those clay pots you see at the holidays. Who knew?

Ruby has learned to smile and we are loving it. Hope your week gives you good reason to giggle and grin.

summer salad

If you're looking for something a little different than the basic green salad you might want to try this recipe (click on recipe to make it larger).
It's by Ellie Krieger from Food Network and supereasy to prepare. I substituted snap peas for the green beans (I had them in my refrigerator) and it was delish. Also--much better the second day (after everything soaks in) so might be a good idea to make this and let it sit overnight until lunch/dinner the next day. Enjoy!

bike me

I picked up the two wheeler shirtdress from Anthropologie, so now I'm thinking it might be fun to have a bike as well. The only drag is the bike helmet...kind of puts a dent in the "this bike is part of my outfit" look but very necessary in our small town with blind drivers.

bravo BRAVO!

Never have I waited in such anticipation for a commercial break since I first spotted BRAVO's SUMMER line up advertisement. The music (Macy Gray singing "Kissed It") with the reality stars we love make it a winner in my book.
I was also fascinated with the behind the scenes video on how they got the tiger to schmooze it up with Patti the Matchmaker.

Want to find out more? Check it all out here.
