we admit it. we were so suckered in with the ads: "this is not THE EVENT. and this is not THE EVENT. but; what is THE EVENT and when will it happen?" that we just had to watch and see. After the first show, we still don't know what "THE EVENT" is--but I'm already thinking the show should have been called "THE THING"....

you know how you're trying to tell someone something and you lose your train of thought and you can't remember a few details of the story and you say: "...then we went to the thing. you know. the thing that we do. oh my god. the thing was so great. let's do the thing again some time."

so, on Mondays we'll be watching THE THING. it's all the same. and it still hasn't happened.

we've bulldozed through every good movie and tv series on Netflix (go ahead and stamp a big "L" on my forehead--but please make suggestions for any we may have missed) and I'm retracing my television tracks. We'll be watching "The Practice" which made it's debut in 1997--wha??!! I can't believe it although my daughter says she remembers I used to watch it along with Ally McBeal...ca ca crazy. Will they have big ass cell phones? Will there be computers?? Can't wait to find out.
*UPDATE--just saw the "pilot" episode and besides the beepers and old school PC's the writing still stands the test of time. David E. Kelley is a genius.

Today, I'm teaching third graders about how to write a check (it's in a unit about money) but I started thinking if this was like teaching Latin. Are online banking and automated payments making check writing a dying form of currency? Do you write checks anymore? ever?

falsies

Recently, I tried Maybelline "The Falsies" mascara and was really impressed. I thought a few sentences would suffice and then I found this and ....whoa!
First off--is this woman paid to do these reviews? She's very articulate, looks great for the camera but...who is she?
She sounds like a newscaster and she has other videos with reviews about make-up so she's keeping herself busy. I find it fascinating that she puts these little "shows" together in her bedroom (?) and lets us all take a peek. Is the idea that Maybelline/other cosmetic companies might come knocking??

our dog is at the groomer's being deskunkified after being blasted by one of these scoundrels last night. What a 2AM nightmare...and how lovely my hair looks after taking a shower and sleeping on wet, curly hair after feeling like I was the one who was hit...PeeeeeeeeeYOU.
